WellMed has earned the Gold Seal of Approval® for Ambulatory Health Care from The Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting health care body.

The Gold Seal of Approval is a respected symbol of quality in health care that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care. WellMed also received the Primary Care Medical Home (PCMH) Certification, an additional designation earned by select ambulatory health care organizations.

In 2017, ambulatory health care experts from the Joint Commission evaluated how WellMed doctors and their support teams work with patients to provide effective, comprehensive, coordinated and patient-centered care. WellMed was evaluated for compliance with ambulatory care standards related to monitoring for infection prevention and control, management of medications, patient education and training, and more.

The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval and PCMH Certification are awarded for a three-year period and apply to more than 150 WellMed primary care and multispecialty clinics in Texas, Florida and New Mexico.

In San Antonio, where WellMed is based, more than 30 primary care and multispecialty clinics are Joint Commission-accredited, including Bexar Imaging, which provides radiology services to patients in the WellMed network. WellMed clinics in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Rio Grande Valley, Tampa, Greater Orlando and the Treasure Coast of Florida, and WellMed’s Optum clinics in Miami also were recognized by the Joint Commission.
