WellMed celebrates grand opening of Westlakes clinic

Check out new facility, which features 18 exam rooms – up from the 13 at the previous clinic – and a lab that is double the size.

WellMed is once again expanding its services in San Antonio – this time, on the city’s far West side.

The WellMed at Westlakes clinic made its debut late last month. Located at 10622 State Highway 151, the 11,084-square-foot facility replaces an older clinic at 8303 Military Drive West.

More than 100 guests, including patients, turned out for the grand opening and enjoyed a tour of the new facility, which features 18 exam rooms – up from the 13 at the previous clinic – and a lab that is double the size.

WellMed at Westlakes also features a procedure room and capacity for six medical providers.

“Our role is not just to see them when they’re sick. The idea is to get them healthy and do what we need to do to maintain their health,” said Westlakes’ Dr. Po-Ming Fung, who spoke at the grand opening.

Dr. Rafael Rodriguez added, “We have a team who put the patient at the center of our care model so we can keep them healthy and hopefully out of the hospital.”

The clinic is representative of the growing slate of health care options that have started to make their way to residents of the far West side, said District 6 Councilman Ric Galvan, who joined members of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce for the official ribbon cutting.

“We have a lot of specialty care out here, and I’m glad we have it. But we need primary care to make sure our residents have access to health care they can afford and easily access,” he said. “I’m excited to have WellMed be a part of the community.”
