WellMed has earned Level 2: Committed to Care Excellence for Older Adults recognition through the nationally recognized Age-Friendly Health Systems initiative, marking a significant milestone in the organization’s ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality care for older adults.

As a leading health care provider serving primarily Medicare patients and individuals enrolled in qualifying Medicare Advantage plans, WellMed focuses on helping older adults manage their health, maintain their independence and achieve better outcomes. The latest recognition reflects that commitment and the organization’s continued investment in evidence-based care designed to meet the unique needs of aging populations.

In 2024, the health care enterprise was recognized as a Participant after demonstrating its commitment to implementing evidence-based practices designed to improve care and outcomes for older adults.

Following a comprehensive review of quality measures and patient outcomes, WellMed advanced to Level 2 status, reflecting the organization’s continued focus on delivering patient-centered care that helps older adults maintain their health, independence and quality of life.

“This achievement validates the exceptional work of our care teams and reinforces the trust that patients, families, brokers and community partners place in the care we deliver,” said Dr. Barbara Allen, chief medical officer for WellMed. “Most importantly, it highlights our focus on helping patients stay healthy, maintain their independence and achieve better health outcomes throughout their care journey.”

Age-Friendly Health Systems is an initiative of The John A. Hartford Foundation and the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), in partnership with the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the Catholic Health Association of the United States (CHA). The initiative recognizes health care organizations that adopt evidence-based practices to better meet the needs of older adults.

The recognition further reinforces an approach WellMed has embraced for decades: delivering compassionate, high-quality care that helps people live healthier, more independent lives as they age.
