The American Nurses Association’s theme for this year’s National Nurses Week is “Nurses: Inspire.  Innovate.  Influence.”

National Nurses Week was first observed in October 1954, in honor of Florence Nightingale, the English nurse who became known as the founder of professional nursing.   Due to her habit of making rounds at night during the Crimean War (1853-1856), she became known as “The Lady with the Lamp”.  Since then, the lamp has become an international symbol of nursing.

Today, the nursing profession in the U.S. has grown to over 4 million nurses.  At WellMed, over 800 outstanding nurses provide care, guidance and subject matter expertise across our enterprise every day.

Take this week to thank nurses for their dedication and superior skills and celebrate their contributions.
